Living Room Plan | Design Services

by Jennifer

I was so excited to have the chance recently to work with a lovely couple on pulling together the living room in their new house. They had three gorgeous pieces of furniture that were the staring points for the design – an apple green tufted sofa (the photo on the idea board doesn’t even come close to doing the color justice) and a pair of chairs upholstered in a fantastic modern floral fabric.

The first thing that jumped out at me was the empty space inside a large bay window – perfect for a window seat, which I’ve always loved.  I chose three fabrics for window seat pillows in shades of apple green, powder blue, and raspberry, pulling colors from the other upholstery in the room.  The window seat itself will be upholstered in a cream fabric.

We talked about moving the sofa and chairs to the center of the room on either side of the fireplace to create a cozy conversation area.  A couple of throw pillows in a geometric black and cream pattern tie into some of the black and white in the chairs.  Another pair of small, lumbar-sized pillows will add a bit of color to the couch without covering up too much of that beautiful tufting.

The sunburst-inspired mirror is one of my favorites (remember it from yesterday’s post on my Z Gallerie copycat?) and would be a stunning focal point over the fireplace mantle.

Those of you who are readers of Miss Mustard Seed may recognize the blue sideboard on the idea board.  There’s a great large painting the couple plans to hang on the wall behind the sofa and a sideboard or sofa table in pale blue or a combination of wood stain and pale blue set against the wall, under the painting, would both anchor the painting and echo some of the soft blue colors in other parts of the room.

I had such a great time working on this space and am excited to announce that I’m opening a little storefront here on The Chronicles of Home offering my design consultation services to any of you who feel like you could use a nudge in the right direction with a space in your home.

I can work with you from scratch, helping you pick out furniture that fits your budget and taste as well as room accessories to tie everything together, or work with what you already have to create an interesting and cohesive space.

You can click the link at the top of the page to see my new Services page or just click the e-mail icon at the top right of my blog to send me a note so we can get started discussing your project.

And because I’m thinking it right now, I want to thank all of you who stop by here day after day to read what I’ve written.  Yesterday marked six months since I started writing The Chronicles of Home and I‘m so grateful for all of the support I’ve received from my family, friends, and readers.

Hope you have a great weekend!

It’s so great to see the snippets of all that makes up a great room. I love this.
I printed out your upholstered stool a while back hoping my carpenter partner would make it for me but I guess the new room under our house and the deck comes first…maybe I will attempt it.
    have a great weekend.

Meet Jen

I'm a design and DIY lover, decorator, modern home-maker, foodie, fashion enthusiast, and jill-of-all-trades when it comes to home improvement. I'm slowly but surely adding classic-contemporary style to my early 90's colonial home one inch at a time and I'm taking you along for the ride.

It's often messy - there are usually project remnants and toys strewn about - but the making of a home isn't always tidy work and I love showing you how you can make and style and organize your way to a home and a life you love!
