Radiant Orchid Mini Makeover

by Jennifer

Yesterday, I promised that I would be sharing the steps it took me to get from A to B with my powder room makeover, and I’m starting things off today!

We’re going to ease into things though, with a nice easy project to start.  I teamed up with five of my blogging buddies to bring you some projects inspired by Pantone’s color of the year – Radiant Orchid.

Purple isn’t the first color I’m drawn to when it comes to home projects, but the wallpaper I used in my powder room makeover had lots of color, including purple, and gave me the perfect excuse to pull some of that purple out and onto another item in the room.

My target?  A little basket I’ve had on the back of our powder room toilet for years now, holding some extra toilet paper rolls.  The new powder room is especially iiiiiiiiiitybitty, so there’s no where on the floor to squeeze a basket with extra TP rolls.

The basket was completely unoffensive, but I thought a little radiant orchid and some liquid gold leaf would take it to a slightly more stylish place, and would jive better with the new bathroom’s color scheme.

The process was super simple.  I used a tiny brush to paint the top and bottom strips that were green with purple acrylic paint, and the center green strips got the liquid gold leaf treatment.

The painting was a bit precise, but not difficult at all, and I find once I get into a groove with projects like this, I just kind of zone out and it’s done before I know it.

I love the little purple echo from wallpaper to basket now.

Be sure to check out the other Radiant Orchid projects – I love what everyone came up with!

Have you added any Radiant Orchid to your house?  Are you a purple-in-small-doses type or do you find yourself pushing down your inner Barney the Purple Dinosaur??

Meet Jen

I'm a design and DIY lover, decorator, modern home-maker, foodie, fashion enthusiast, and jill-of-all-trades when it comes to home improvement. I'm slowly but surely adding classic-contemporary style to my early 90's colonial home one inch at a time and I'm taking you along for the ride.

It's often messy - there are usually project remnants and toys strewn about - but the making of a home isn't always tidy work and I love showing you how you can make and style and organize your way to a home and a life you love!
