2016 Fall Home Tour – Screened Porch and Family Room

by Jennifer

Well this week has certainly been a whirlwind and I snapped the last of the photos for today’s fall home tour yesterday at about, ohhhhh, 4:30 p.m. Just one of those weeks when I didn’t get ahead on anything but did mostly manage to keep my head above water so I’m going to go ahead and call that a win. I’m sharing two spaces in my house with you today as part of the Fall Home Tours hosted by Marty from A Stroll Through Life. If you are stopping by from It All Started With Paint, hello, and welcome! I met Linda in person a few years ago and she is as sweet and lovely as her home is beautiful. Always nice when those two things align, I think.

Now here’s the thing about my fall decorating this year. I went with an exceedingly simple, unfussy approach, partly because my time this September has been very focused on recovering from the tornado that hit my house a few weeks ago and partly because…I don’t know. Do you have years where you’re just not feeling the usual stuff? The pumpkins, the mums, the hay bales, the bowls of apples? I have another fall tour ahead in a couple weeks and I’m not saying I won’t be feeling some of those things by then (I do love a good heirloom pumpkin and purple mums are one of my fall favorites), but this tour today is mostly focused on cozy blankets, wooly-textured pillows, rich colors, a few branches from the yard, and, yes, the occasional tiny pumpkin. I really do believe that some thoughtfully placed accents can make a house feel as warm and cozy and autumnal as piles of pumpkins and mums.

I’m going to let the photos do the talking here, but I do hope you enjoy the tour through my screened porch and family room. The screened porch is set up for a birthday dinner party I’m having tonight, and I love the fun, festive, unexpected touch the paper flowers and garlands add. I’ll link to any pieces you can purchase underneath the photos, in case you’re looking for sources.

Meet Jen

I'm a design and DIY lover, decorator, modern home-maker, foodie, fashion enthusiast, and jill-of-all-trades when it comes to home improvement. I'm slowly but surely adding classic-contemporary style to my early 90's colonial home one inch at a time and I'm taking you along for the ride.

It's often messy - there are usually project remnants and toys strewn about - but the making of a home isn't always tidy work and I love showing you how you can make and style and organize your way to a home and a life you love!
