Easy fall or Halloween wreath with preserved boxwood and black spray painted corn

I’ve teamed up with some blogging friends again this fall to offer you the motherlode of free fall printables – thirty-six 100% free different things you can print out and use in your home to decorate for fall. I took a different approach than I have in years past and made a cute little banner for Halloween. My seven year old is actually embarrassed at how un-festive our house has been the last couple Halloweens so I thought I would whip a little something up that we can hang outside our front door when it gets close to Halloween.

Here’s what you need to recreate this free printable Halloween banner:

  • Free printable Halloween “BOO” banner
  • Scissors
  • Woven paper
  • Long ruler
  • Mod Podge
  • Paintbrush
  • Hole punch
  • Bakers twine
  • Black ribbon
  • Black and white striped ribbon
  • Preserved boxwood wreath
  • Indian corn
  • Black spray paint
  • Twine

Once you print the letters and bats and cut them out with scissors, you’ll need to cut the woven paper sheets into four triangles to make your banner. Use a ruler to draw lines corner to corner to make four equally-sized triangles and cut them out with scissors. You’ll need five triangles total. Use Mod Podge and a small paintbrush to glue the letters and bats to each of the five triangles. Once the Mod Podge has set a bit paint more of it over the whole front of the paper triangles and the letters and bats to seal it all. Once the Mod Podge has dried punch holes in the top corners of the triangles and use bakers twine to tie them together into a banner. Use baker’s twine at the outer corners of the bats so you have some extra for hanging.

With the banner, I used black satin and black and white striped ribbon at the ends where the banner was hung. I also put together an easy fall wreath by hanging a simple preserved boxwood wreath on the door and using twine to hang some indian corn I spray painted glossy black inside the wreath.

So simple and so cute! I can’t even tell you how excited my seven year old was to see me making a Halloween decoration. I set the bar pretty low so it doesn’t take much!

Meet Jen

I'm a design and DIY lover, decorator, modern home-maker, foodie, fashion enthusiast, and jill-of-all-trades when it comes to home improvement. I'm slowly but surely adding classic-contemporary style to my early 90's colonial home one inch at a time and I'm taking you along for the ride.

It's often messy - there are usually project remnants and toys strewn about - but the making of a home isn't always tidy work and I love showing you how you can make and style and organize your way to a home and a life you love!
