Oh, Christmas Tree…

by Jennifer

…oh, Christmas tree…how lovely are your branches…

Except this year, for the first time in my whole life, I decorated fake trees!

You might recall that my house has gotten zero Christmas love this year because of our impending move (4 days to go!).  But I was brought on board to decorate a house on my town’s Holiday House Tour this year, so I’m sharing Christmas projects and vignettes I used there.  The owner of the house had two great-quality fake trees and since I started decorating in early November, we decided fake trees were the way to go so we wouldn’t have a couple of tree corpses by the time the tour date came around.

So far I’ve shared with you the two Christmas mantles I decorated in the house, a DIY cheap-and-easy ornament garland, and a DIY “Noel” display.

Today I’m giving you a peek at the two Christmas trees, and then tomorrow I’ll have the whole house tour up!

I have a pretty simple style when it comes to Christmas tress, and these tress were no exception.  The larger of the two trees went in the family room, tucked into a corner behind the sofa.

I decorated the tree with burlap ribbons trailing down from the bow on top, glittered fruit ornaments, gold and red glass balls, mercury glass globes, and a glass “Twelve Days of Christmas” collection my parents gave me a few years ago.  I also trailed a few gold beaded garlands down the tree.

Under the tree, I placed a small collection of wrapped gifts, candle lanterns, and a bronze garden stool.
In the living room, I used a narrow tree next to a wall of windows, to the right of the fireplace.

I decorated this tree very simply, with miniature gold and silver balls, and black and white striped ribbon.

I added a few gifts under this tree too, and set my favorite rehabbed thrifted piece ever – a barrel-back cane chair – next to it.  You wouldn’t believe what this chair looked like when I found it.

Make sure you check back tomorrow when I will finally give you the full details on this house and how I decorated it for Christmas.  Can’t wait to share it with you!

Meet Jen

I'm a design and DIY lover, decorator, modern home-maker, foodie, fashion enthusiast, and jill-of-all-trades when it comes to home improvement. I'm slowly but surely adding classic-contemporary style to my early 90's colonial home one inch at a time and I'm taking you along for the ride.

It's often messy - there are usually project remnants and toys strewn about - but the making of a home isn't always tidy work and I love showing you how you can make and style and organize your way to a home and a life you love!
