The Screened Porch 2014

by Jennifer

I have been waiting all summer to share this room with you and, go figure, it’s taken me until practically Labor Day weekend to get around to photographing it!

Our screened porch is, hands down, my favorite room in the house from about May-September, and was the natural choice for me to share during Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours – Favorite Room Edition.  If you’re coming over from Primitive and Proper, welcome!

When I first saw this house last fall, before we bought it, this room sold me on it more than anything else.

I love the floor to ceiling screens and the way it was built to be both airy and architectural, with a planked ceiling and decorative columns around the room.

I set it up with lounge seating for 8-9 people since we really do use this an outdoor(ish) living room in the warm months.

I could sit out here all day – it’s my favorite spot to have coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, pay bills, blog, anything at all.  And listening to summer rain from in here – the best.

Besides the seating area, the screened porch also houses a glossy navy blue bar cart (I turned an old tv table into the bar cart – details HERE).  I made the DIY rope mirror above it from a cheap tray (you can find that tutorial HERE).

We often eat meals at this adorable blue and white wicker bistro set I found at Home Goods earlier this summer, and the subtle twinkle from the DIY lighted boxwood pendants is really enchanting at night.

I can feel fall approaching, and fast, and know that my days here in my favorite room are numbered for this year.  I so look forward to spending time out here and already can’t wait for next year’s screened porch season to return!  I am also mildly (or violently, not sure) obsessed with the idea of an upholstered hanging porch swing.  You’ll have to check back next summer to see if I bite the bullet on that one!

Now head over to the next stop on the tour at DIY Showoff.  And make sure you check out the rest of the incredible favorite rooms shared this week as part of the Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours – Favorite Room Edition.

What I wouldn’t give for this space! I love the bar cart and mirror and all of the different seating areas! The bamboo shades definitely complete it. Great tour!

It really was what cemented the house being “the one” for me :) I am going to be so sad when it gets too cold to sit out there. Maybe I will just carry a space heater out with me and pretend.

Not having a screened porch wasn’t a deal breaker for us when we were house shopping, but we had a little one in our last house and really loved it, so when I saw this one it sure did make me love the house even more!

I'm a design and DIY lover, decorator, modern home-maker, foodie, fashion enthusiast, and jill-of-all-trades when it comes to home improvement. I'm slowly but surely adding classic-contemporary style to my early 90's colonial home one inch at a time and I'm taking you along for the ride.

It's often messy - there are usually project remnants and toys strewn about - but the making of a home isn't always tidy work and I love showing you how you can make and style and organize your way to a home and a life you love!
