The Boys’ Bedroom is Done!

by Jennifer

Those of you who have been reading since August have heard me talk about my friend Karen’s sons’ bedroom that I’ve been helping her decorate.  I’ve posted about my plans for the room, the upholstered headboards I made, the pillow covers I made from an old quilt, the bedside table I refinished, the piano bench I reupholstered, and the mirrors I painted.

Well, last Friday I finished!  It’s been so much fun to see it all come together and the boys, who are 4 and 1 1/2, seem really happy with their “new” room.  Which, of course, is the most important thing!

Here’s a before shot of the room.

Karen had bought a few things before we started working together that she wanted to work into the space.  There were lots of framed pictures, a collection of paper lanterns to be used as night lights, a wall decal she’d picked out, a piano, and the train table in the center of the room.  I selected a few of the framed pictures and did a gallery wall above the piano.  I hung the lanterns at varying heights in a cluster above the train table for a chandelier effect, using clear hanging wire and small white screw-hooks.  The decal went on the long empty wall opposite the quilt you see in the photo above.
Ready for the before and after?

Here’s a shot of the decal that went on the only large blank wall in the room.  It’s by Blik and is called “It Makes Toast.”  Very quirky and cool.  You can also see how the mirrors came out with the etched metal letters in the center.  I used hemp twine to hang the letter from a small white hook above the mirror.

The other letter has been on backorder for awhile now but is due in next week.  So, technically, I’m not “done”…but close enough, right?
It was so much fun for me to work on a boys’ room.  The four-year old sweetly handed me a gift when I got to his house on Friday…a pink t-shirt with a drill on it and the words “Drill Baby, Drill.”  Then he gave me a hug.  Seriously…does it get much cuter than that??

Actually…now I think you’re talking about the wall sconces. The hanging lanterns on the ceiling are from Pier 1. The wall sconces are the Depot Sconce from PB Kids.

Meet Jen

I'm a design and DIY lover, decorator, modern home-maker, foodie, fashion enthusiast, and jill-of-all-trades when it comes to home improvement. I'm slowly but surely adding classic-contemporary style to my early 90's colonial home one inch at a time and I'm taking you along for the ride.

It's often messy - there are usually project remnants and toys strewn about - but the making of a home isn't always tidy work and I love showing you how you can make and style and organize your way to a home and a life you love!
